“We’ll do anything for anyone at any time. Millionaires or not, we give the same service to everyone, whatever the job.”
John is a stylish Egyptian tailor with endless enthusiasm for good service. He owns and runs City Tailors. He turned out to be a lot more charismatic and personable than I expected from the less than swish business sign on his shopfront.
John will make you a made-to-measure suit. He has a list of satisfied customers, including Ronnie Wood from the Rolling Stones, David Dimbleby, the TV presenter, and David Blunkett, the former Home Secretary.
But he declares that he is just as happy altering and mending people’s clothes. He is delighted to replace buttons, do invisible mending, mend woollens … basically, whatever your tailoring or mending need, John is happy to provide it. And I do mean happy. I am confident he will provide it all with an unfailingly sunny smile. He can re-stitch jeans in exactly the same style as the original, and he even re-stitches shoes. I pressed John to tell me what was the job he most liked, but he insists he likes them all.
If you want something taken out, or a tear mended, I can guarantee you won’t be met with the traditional pursed lips and lowered eyes of disapproval.
